Locate an Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Support Group

Whiteside.) The Alzheimer's Association, Western
and Central Washington State Chapter offers support groups in many
community settings at no charge. Before joining a group we recommend
that you:

Call the support
group leader to confirm meeting times and location. Calling the
support group leader can help you determine if the support group
is right for you.

Select a group and
attend 3 meetings before you decide if it is the right group for
you.
Nearly 100 support groups for caregivers provide a consistent and
caring place for group members to discuss the challenges and
problems of caregiving, share their feelings and find emotional
support as well as exchange information and educate themselves about
Alzheimer's disease.
Different than general caregiving support groups, Alzheimer's
Association support groups for caregivers are specific to
Alzheimer's issues and related dementias, and offer an environment
where others understand because they share a common experience.
Information and education are specific to dementia care management,
including how to cope with challenging behaviors, and deal with the
ongoing losses and grief. Current Alzheimer's research information
and treatment options are provided.
The Chapter offers specialized support groups for specific groups of
caregivers who would like to receive more in-depth information with
individuals who have more in common due their relationship to the
diagnosed, cultural specific and/or language specific. Examples of
special focus groups are: Men's Only Group, Long-Distance Caregiving
Support Group, African American Caregivers Group and Adult Child
Caregiver's Group.
All Alzheimer's Association support groups are led by trained
volunteers who receive ongoing technical support and training from
the Chapter office. Solicitation and marketing to group members is
not allowed.
