We
are fortunate to have Lisa Solwold as our illustrator for An
Evening to Remember. Lisa is a longtime supporter of the
Alzheimer's Association and has produced artwork for multiple
Chapter events. She is extremely talented and her compassion and
understanding of Alzheimer's disease shows in her work. This year's
illustration is exceptional. Here is what Lisa has said of this
year's artwork:
"This
year's illustration was created as a tribute to the caretakers. As
my mother's journey into the depths of Alzheimer's Advances and she
no longer remembers who I am, I have been profoundly moved by the
patience of my Father as he gently fills in the blanks of her
memory, whether the events happened years ago or seconds ago. I
marvel at his ability to have a sense of humor as he searches for
his wallet (again) the she has burrowed away in one of her many
secret places. He is the gondolier purposefully steering the "barca
di vita" (boat of life) away from the safe harbor and now through
rough waters.
Around him the almost unseen Pierrots help to calm the water, light
the way and gently guide the boat. They come in many forms, the
nurse's aid who comes in weekly to sit with my Mother, family
members who visit and provide a much needed respite, doctors
treating those afflicted, researchers striving to find a cure,
volunteers donating time and money to help provide abundant
resources. The caretaker's heart is precious I think and stems from
the powerful desire to make a difference in the quality of someone's
life." |
