» ADVOCACY JOB DESCRIPTIONS

The Alzheimer's Association has Volunteer Advocate Opportunities available on an ongoing or one time event basis. If you are interested in volunteering please call Patricia Hunter or Nancy Dapper at the Chapter office at 800-848-7097. Volunteers needed for Advocacy Day Feb. 8, 2006.

Title: Chapter Advocacy Network Member
Time: 1 hour per month
Description/Tasks: Learn who your public officials are. Learn how to call or write them. Stay informed on issues through our Chapter mailings. Call or write public officials when you receive our ALERTS!

Title: Telephone/ Email Advocate
Time:
2 hours per month
Description/Tasks: Alert people and disperse information about upcoming actions, such as hearings or forums, where their participation is needed.

Title: Public Policy Advocate
Time: 1-4 hours per event
Description/Tasks: Meet with public officials to tell your story (with or without Chapter staff). Speak at a legislative hearing or forum. Speak with a reporter. Be a "generalist" or be just willing to talk about one issue or an experience. Serve as a "key contact" for one public official.

Title: Advocate Leader/Training Day
Time: 6 hours per training event
Description/Tasks: Assist preparation of outreach flyers. Work on mailing Manage registration. Logistics: schedule room, confirm speaker, plan refreshments; and copy handouts.

Title: Community Outreach
Time: 1-4 hours per event
Description/Tasks: Manage Public Policy table at a Memory Walk, health fair or other event. Respond to invitations to talk with support groups about Public Policy

Title: Legislative Mailing Coordinator
Time: 15 hours per mailing
Description/Tasks: Work with Policy Director to prepare materials. Set up and maintain data base of candidates and public officials. Work with other volunteers to assure copying, collating and mailing.

Title: Inquiring Minds for Needs Assessment
Time: 10-20 hours, mostly summer and fall
Description/Tasks: Work on mailings to survey the needs of people we serve. Create and work on other ways to include people we serve in setting our public policy priorities.
